I’m not at all surprised about this considering they did the same thing with stevia extract. http://www.stevia.net/
I once read the reasoning behind this is because it’s so healthy, cheap,(and patent-free) because noncaloric sweeteners are big business in the U.S., same with sugar and the sugar-alcohols, sorbital, mannitol and xylitol.
