This evening, Michael and I went to the meeting initiating the recall of Mayor Don Williamson a.k.a. The Con. I do believe there is hope yet for the city of Flint. The people here do care and want things to turn in another direction. Please stop this asshole before he attempts to run an embarrassing campaign for governor in 2010 and humiliates us even more than Michael Moore did in the 80's.
We couldn't ask for a worse mayor, and yet somehow, he was re-elected, winning by a mere 500-something votes in 2007. Williamson has been accused of bribing citizens for votes by fixing up the poor churches and putting large amounts of cash in the collection plates. He also gave away more than $20,000 at the car dealership that his wife owns as part of a “Customer Appreciation Day.” Each recipient of the money was given campaign literature. It should also be pointed out that during the 2007 election, Williamson claimed that the city had an $8.9 million surplus thanks to his dominion, but then right after the election, it was revealed that Flint actually owned a $4 Million deficit. This explains why my property taxes keep going up even though I haven't done many improvements in the last 5 years, and while mysteriously, real-estate value is crashing all around us! (Yeah, the mortgage payment on that house is a mere $5 a month!) People are giving their Flint houses away rather than trying to deal with selling them. Empty houses end up broken into and all the appliances and copper pipes ripped out. Seriously. I have stories.
Also, let's not forget that in both elections, Williamson ran as a Democrat even though the state Democratic party denied him. They don't even want the Con! Perhaps because both he and his wife contributed the maximum amount to Republican George W. Bush's campaign? Just a guess.
The highlight of the evening was when my husband had the balls to stand up and call out the mole, the court jester sent by the Don to report back about which city workers showed up to kick off the recall initiative. They'll likely lose their jobs for standing up for what they believe in, just like Michael did. I know people who work for the city who are so intimidated by that vindictive megalomaniac, they will not put their name on this piece of paper. They know if he catches wind of it, they will lose their position “due to budget cuts” or some other excuse. Their own union presidents will likely be woefully ineffective in pursuing justice for them and guess why… well, I'm sure you can probably make some pretty accurate assumptions based on what you have probably already heard about this idiot.
I could go on and on.
Where's Banksy when you need him?
Needless to say, I'll be collecting signatures.
