Richard P. Taylor, a physics professor at the University of Oregon, used fractal geometry to look for patterns in drip paintings that have been claimed by their owner to be original Jackson Pollocks and found that they do not exhibit the same types of patterns.
While this doesn't necessarily prove that Pollock didn't paint them, art historians and dealers say their initial opinion was that the paintings were not by Pollock and could in fact have been painted by more than one artist.
